Description
In 1849 France was still predominantly a rural and agricultural society, Ceres, Roman goddess of harvests and agriculture was chosen to symbolize the Republic on the first French postage stamp.
From 1903 onwards, the Sower created by Oscar Roty perpetuated this tradition on the stamps and coins of France long after the industrial change, against all odds, moreover, farmers immediately noted that she sowed against the wind, as evidenced by her beautiful hair.
